SYNOPSIS

Vicki and Pat in Fuerteventura is a two-woman comedy play in one act.  Vicki and Pat meet after choosing adjacent sun loungers on an all-inclusive holiday in Fuerteventura. The play is set over a few days, although all of the action happens in this location. The pair fill us in on their adventures through their dialogue, such as the mysterious ‘Happy Hour’ they went to the night before which has left them the worse for wear, the aerobics class they were persuaded to join by the Activities Rep which ends in disaster and the entire gateau that Pat has stolen from the all-inclusive buffet. As she repeatedly insists, if it's all-inclusive, it's not stealing.

Some really barmy behaviour pervades but also some deeply rooted and heartfelt revelations come to the fore as the plot develops and we discover that perhaps their relationship goes further back than they thought.

With modern social references as well as some throwback references to the 90's, this show is funny, silly, poignant and relatable and is for anyone who enjoys character comedy.  The audience will leave reminded about the power of female friendship.

DEVELOPMENT

This is the company’s debut production and follows a successful run at the 2018 Buxton Fringe Festival (nominated for Best New Writing) and Theatre 503, London. Vicki and Pat is written by Ellen Chivers, directed by Steve McCourt and produced by Charlotte Lund.

In 2017, Ellen Chivers went on holiday to Fuerteventura with her Mum and after witnessing some interesting conversations and antics around the pool, the idea for a play about two women chatting on sunloungers came about. And for that, she had only one person in mind: Rachael Henley. They met up on the Southbank in February to discuss ideas and invited Steve along. They scratched the first sketches at Theatre in the Pound at The Cockpit Theatre in Marylebone in July 2017 and again at Rachael’s scratch night at The Soundlounge in Tooting later that month. After 6 months of development Vicki and Pat toured to Theatre N16, The Hen and Chickens, Buxton Fringe and Theatre N16 and now will be at Brighton Fringe in May 2019.  Vicki and Pat in Fuerteventura has grown from an idea around the pool to the fully-fledged play it is today.
